why do we only have bbc6 music (going downhill recently too) for decent, non-r'n'b/ childrens music radio in this country :rsocmoan: all the others play the same 20 tunes all day and night long.
Do you not have local commercial stations? They can be a bit naff sometimes but do cater for all? I totally agree with you that r & b dominates air play and is very over rated :dunno: - how can you write / sing a song about a bloody umbrella ffs :D

I listen to BBC Radio 2 mostly, I think they play a cracking range of music and give you a chance to hear stuff you wouldn't normally listen to. As for the commercial stations, they all suck without exception.
I will try BBC6 though sounds like it might be pretty good.:)

I find Virgin radio to be a great mix. Their Sat night party set is awesome too, so long as you are into your 80's stuff like me.
My problem with Radio 2 is that a good number of their shows are poor. The good ones are great though.
When too did "R&B" become the tag for that genre of music?
Pick up any R&B album from the 70's and it's all proper guitar based blues...
theres a bbc6!!! lol, im joking, i know what u mean tho, radio1 = same songs almost on at the same time everyday!! DOWNLOAD THE RADIO 1 PODCAST etc etc
Mayaswell be commercial radio ammount of adverts it has for itself!
My soloution, Ipod, get all ur tunes on, get an iTrip for it, and make your own radio station in the car. works for me, led zeppelins never been on 88.1 FM so much!

mark radcliffe was good in the evenings on r2 and marc riley on 6. commercial radio is getting plagued by even more annoying adds and limited playlists these days :(
Steve Write show should be on all day!

yeah it was a dilemma i had when xfm decided to hang itself and get rid of daytime DJs. left it and never going back.
6music is ok, there will always be the odd track that isnt right, but at the same time i do want to be challeneged with music i might not otherwise listen to.
i would just take my mp3 collection to work, but i really need a good DJ to break it all up, otherwise its jsut too much. i doubt thei'll ever be a radio station thats perfect tho, especially one by the bbc, they've always got to try and please as many people as possible, fine if you only listen to an hour a day.. but if your a day long listener week in week out you notice when they play something crap or out of place.
i need a decent, independant station something a bit speciallist but not exclusive, if that makes any sense, will never exist tho :D

whats wrong with radio 1 :D
trouble with DJ's is they all think they are comedians and like the sound of their own voice.
stupid bloody gimmicks etc etc.
just F*****g play the music and tell us the news I say.
and I'm with Boombag
play 80's all day long for me but I'm sure that might not suit everyones taste.

Noticed also that Virgin DJs don't talk for long either, and hey regularily do 5 songs in a row.
There are however loads of online stations with something for everyone - just searching to find the right one.
