Would i be right in thinking that to compete in the old ford sprints a roll cage would have to be msa certified if fitted ie not modified:thinking:

I'm pretty sure that is the case for all motorsport use. Gary I think knows the ins & outs of this if you want more detailed info though:thumb:

i thought as long as its road going ie has an MOT+tax it would be fine, not sure it has to be certified (dont quote me on that tho).... i hope not anyway as most of the stuff in my car is about to go out of date and i dont really want to have to replace it for sprints

What sort of cage is it and how has it been modified?

If you're running in the Modified Roadgoing then you don't even need a cage, and I think if you're running in Modified Production but still in a road legal condition you don't need one either :O in the same way that you don't need an MSA log book

I'm sure my cage would have been approved by the MSA when it was first designed by Rollcentre, but I don't have a certificate for it, and there's nothing on it to show who made it, and I carefully welded a diagonal to it many years ago, just repainted it so its not obvious

Basically don't worry about it unless you've got an ally cage (completely banned) or you've added bits to it and your welding looks crap :D

Gavin has hit the nail on the head...

Basicly the Scruts are there for Your safety, not to piss you off ... if it looks crap its generally is ..so bin it, if it looks good then they will probably let it go..

as for the rules..

If it is fitted then it must conform to the rules and be in date..

But that said ..the scrutineers are human :thumb:

I am a Trainee Scrut and would say the same as Gavin. If the car is "Road Going" cages are not mandatory, only reccommended.

Come on gary you dont need to suck up that much mate, my brothers still working for bernard despite his particularly foul mouth which you must have noticed at the meets :D

I have suggested he get his Cossie ready for Easter and come for the Sprint at Croft Circuit! He could run against my old barge and Chris with the 6R4! What do you think?

I recon he needs to get the shonky saff done way before spring :D all he needs to do is get his wing done by the painter man and then he can bolt his gearbox in and get his head done by turbosystems and a remap to suit the new spec and he is away! I think sprinting would be good fun for him, although youll probably need to give him some help sorting all the paperwork out for the licences etc as they baffle me so they will definately confuse him :D

But i dont think he will do it because you both will absolutely destroy him :jester: Plus hes talking about selling the trailer so theres no way home if/when he destroys something as he does :lmao:
