View Full Version : First Gig
Anyone played in a band before? I've been messing around on the drums for a few months, nothing serious just playing along to some backing tracks, but having organised a charity night down our local for my lads band we thought it would be a nice idea to put a band together with a few mates. We now have two guitarists, a double bass player a singer and me on drums! The rest are very good musicians where as I'm a complete novice and to be honest I'm bricking myself:D Had our first practice session on Saturday, didn't go too badly although I did find myself saying 'right I'll work on that for next week!' rather a lot.
We are doing a couple of Elvis songs, Beatles numbers, House of the rising sun (in a rockabilly stylee) plus one or two others. Need to practice like mad now but very nervous about getting on stage for the first time:clint:

you'll be fine :thumb: before hand yes, bricking it completely :D but the moment you sit down and start to play it disappears, you'll be finished before you know it and buzzing like you wouldnt believe. :thumb:
mate easiest thing is to just have em annnounce it ur 1st gig, that way theyl go easy on you. End of the day tho music is about YOU enjoying it.
When i used 2 play i was never bothered about the reaction i got to be honest, aslong as i had a great time that was me happy!
You'll shit it when u 1st go on, but as soon as you start to play that will all go, and be replaced with a mint feeling. id love to get gigging again, but i turned my back on it all after doing the whole trying to get signed bollox
a few stiff drinks might help as well.
then your timing will be out, just listen to some led zeppelin live stuff before you go on!
Not sure my timings right to start with:D

Less than 24hours to go now, really shitting myself! Last practice today didn't go too well singer got throat infection, guitarist gone missing! But did buy myself a new drum kit for the occasion!

I find getting away from people before the gig and warming up on a practice pad helps. That way you don't get all the idiots coming up and asking if you are nervous and your arms are warmed up too. Just be aware that you are nervous, otherwise might forget and end up playing faster. It does get easier the more gigs you play though, so just enjoy it.
Good Luck! :thumb:
Wow what a night, my lads band were awesome and I've been told we weren't bad either! Had an extra guitarist turn up so all the songs got changed but we managed to keep it together and I only made a few cock-ups, dropping a stick was the worst one and then I couldn't remember where my spare ones were! bit daft to put them behind me....
Really got the buzz now and didn't want it to end, we planned it as a one off for the charity night but think it might just continue.

Nice one Jon. Hope you had a good time.
Sounds like you need a stick bag like this:

It hangs on your floor tom so you don't loose your sticks. :thumb:
When i was gigging, i found the extreme need to go and have a "nervous shit" before going on stage! it worked a treat!! :thumb:
:lmao::lmao::lmao:
Yep!!!!
id always be more worried if i didnt need the pre stage "nervous shit" than actually going on hahaha!
