:D

Ok, so what do you think are the most under-rated bands?

If you listen to the one and only available La's album - The La's - that is an amazing album. I think the reason they didn't continue to record together wasn't that they were under-rated as such but because Lee Mavers was such a twat. But they have definately slipped into obscurity. The album is also interesting because of the hidden references to the bands inner conflicts, for example the last line of the last song is "the change is cast", which is an obvious reference to John Power's new band - Cast:thumb:

Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros :thumb:

Not alot of people have heard of them, and when they have they've dismissed it because they dont sound like The Clash, however, they were a great band:thumb:

Shame what happened to Strummer though:stu:

there are lots of bands like that (trying hard to think of names now) with all top musicians who know what they're doing, because they aint in the mainstream lots miss out on them. at the moment the radio in this country is so shit.bbc 6 music used to be brilliant in the daytime now full of crap like george lamb.way to much radio like heart/capital etc that never play anything but chart fodder rubbish :(

"The Scorpions"- They had a big Uk hit with Wind Of Change, ignore this track and listen to some of there albums you will be glad you did. Start with "Love At First Sting".
I saw them live supporting Judas Priest, It really should have been the other way round.

Also try "Rockhead", some of you may have heard of Bob Rock with connections to Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi and Metalica.
Well this is his band, as far as I know they only ever released one album of the same name, Rockhead, it is one of my all time favourites. Excellent for getting the head noding and foot taping.

And though not a band, I can highly recommend "Clifford T Ward", though only to people who truly apreciate great lyrics, and an unchallenged English singing voice.;)

John Powers is actually on his own now and making some good music/ songs.

I've always liked him, whether he was in The La's or Cast and now on his own.

And I think OMD are under-rated too. I saw them way back in the early 80s and I know things have changed between Paul and Andy, but they are still (and sound) the exact same now as they where then!

Some of their early songs are just fantastic.

And I am going to the concert at the Liverpool Echo Arena in October to see them again!!

Stiff Little Fingers, one of the best punk bands ever and sadly got over shadowed by the likes of the pistols and the clash but they have made some great songs over the years and still gigging now and sounding as fresh as ever:thumb:

Thin Lizzy, one of the best hard rock bands to ever have existed in my opinion

Monster Magnet are very underated too, 80's stoner rock

Blue Oyster Cult, everyone knows "Don't Fear the Reaper" but not much else, worth checkin out

Free, great chill out band, seem to be overlooked due to Bad Company

Montrose, only had a short lifespan but had some great songs

Racer X, 80's metal band with Paul Gilbert on guitar, great band with fast heavy riffs

The Bluetones are excellent. I love Solomon Bites The Worm. Had a crack at playing it in my old band but the problem is that I play with a load of old farts who don't seem to want to play anything written after 1984

Supergrass are also a superb band. Late In The Day - top tune:thumb: . I saw them on The Culture Show recently. There was a thing on to see which band could make the most money busking on the south bank. Supergrass made about £700!

growing up I was a big fan of the police and simple minds and ejoyed them seeing live also but I Know I'm probably leaving myself open here but I did enjoy Aha during the 80's also. Having seen the live three times, I now consider them to be a real good listen.

some stuff is dated but still enjoyable all the same.

They were mad popular during 80's coz of take on me and Morten Harkets looks but have a deeper listen to some of their other tracks, even early stuff and form a better opinion. Most would struggle to name more than 3 of their hits.

I suggest

I call your Name
Summer moved on
out of blue comes green

biigest dissapointment was the BOSS himself.

Love his music though I suppose he was an old man when I saw he allowed crowd to do too much of his work and felt more like a kareoke.

yes he does have a good range and being a fan of them I can tell you he has the longest held note of any song in the record book

on the subject of longest held notes i always thought it would be something like Bill Withers' 'Lovely Day' ...

" a lovely daaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ...ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"

maybe a bit controvertial this but i heard someone describe Dee-lite as a one-hit-wonder earlier today. However, they had a pretty good album out at the time - World Clique. It wasn't bad. 'Groove Is In The Heart' was nowhere near as good as 'I Just Wanna Hear A Good Beat'. That tune fuckin rocked and was funky as hell. They may only have had one commercial hit but the other stuff was better:cool:

Bloody Youtube! ..can't find any proper vids anymore:watchout:
