Hockenheim is undergoing a "revamp", the track will be reduced from 4.2miles to 2.7 miles.

The drivers will now leave the existing track before the first chicane and rejoin the existing circuit on the straight before the stadium section.
This will "remove" all three chicanes of the old layout.

Do you think this will make the GP better or not?

Im undecided.

Its a really bad move, there have been some great GP's in the past.

Well it was nice to have the big long runs where they got some speed up, but strangely enough it never made for any decent overtakes in to the chicanes, every time someone tried it seemed to end in tears, which is odd because they normally seem to think that those big drags are excellent for a good "out of the slipstream manouvre"
Is there a map of the new layout anywhere? would be interested in a look.

Don't think it will make much difference either way to the race excitement.

dunno where the new bit will run but the red line shows (very) roughly wher it will leave and rejoin. wether there will be any bends/chicanes whatever on that bit i dont know.

Are they doing this just so the can host club events like brands and still hole GP's on the 'GP Circuit' or are they selling the other bit of the circuit off to wallmart http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

Apparently the F1 racing authorities have demanded the changes to ensure the GP`s survival. For what reason i dont know.

I found this, its the official drawing for the revised circuit.
The new bit of track is the dark grey bit towards the right hand side.

And it won't make the racing any closer.

...but I thought the chicanes were introduced several years ago to slow it down anyway. Now they're gonna chop it in half!! Madness. Bernies probably sold the rest of the site to Barratt Homes

I can't quite see yet why it's being done but sure as eggs theres a money debacle in there somwhere.

Maybe the TV coverage has been reduced by an hour so Bernie decided to reduce the track size so that the race still fits in... he he

I'm not a cinic...much http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

In fact, I bet they're gonna build huge Grand Stands. The success of the Malaysia track has probably got them all thinking. And looking at that map, well positioned Grand Stands would have a great view.......so maybe it's a good thing?!?!

Don't get me wrong Bernies the Man, but as such he's open to a bit of light ribbing do you not think? http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

lets face it the sport wouldn't be the way it is now without him.
