Dutch V8STAR series planned for 2003
10.09.02
Motorsport from up close with spectacular 495 hp strong silhouette race cars ? in its second year already, the concept of the V8STAR race series is a big hit in Germany. In future, there might be an own championship in the Netherlands, too.
Last Sunday, the management of the Circuit Park Zandvoort and the Dutch motor racing association, who are also the joint promoters of the Dutch touring car championship (DTCC), have presented a concept for the future of touring car racing in The Netherlands, in which the V8STAR could be playing a role: 2003 will be considered as a transition year, in which there are two categories racing together: on one hand, cars to the current DTCC regulations in a ?Division 2? together with V8STAR cars, the so-called ?Division 1?. In 2004, there will only be the Dutch V8STAR.
As a first step into this direction, the V8STAR presented itself with four cars and demonstration laps at the occasion of the race meeting ?Trophy of the Dunes? at Zandvoort. The echo to the brawny V8STAR cars from teams, drivers and the Dutch spectators was huge. Dutch motor racing legend Jan Lammers and well-known motorsport commentator and touring car driver Allard Kalff got a first impression of the V8STAR?s driving experience. ?This was great fun?, said Lammers, who almost drove for an hour with the V8STAR race taxi at the dune track. ?I will immediately help to convert and promote this great idea.?
