Most race / comp. regs frown on fuel cells being within a crew cabin. Its a good idea but a lot of work to seal off!
Hey, yep would have to firewall it - was thinking of of small amount of framing it using the rollcage or something - it's a big area all right so would require some thought....

my thoughts, front engined car, it will be nose heavy, i would be considering trying to mount the tank further back than normal,
my bmw which has a 12 gall escort tank just behind the firewall has almost 50/50 distribution, but only when the tank is full to the brim, but as i never complete with a brimmed tank i want to move mine rearwards. when the tank is empty it wont make much difference, but at the start of a race when the tyres are cold a bit more weight on the rear will be good
Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'll have a ponder on this because my initial thoughts are to make it so the tank can be moved a little forward/back depending on fuel level, sort of like position for 1/4 full, 1/2 full, over 1/2 full. I think something like the way they do it for floor mounted pedal boxes would be a reasonable start position. Cheers.

...so after pondering I think what I'm going to do is replace the tank with a Jaz fuel cell type item and place it lower down just behind where the watts bracket would be. This way I can get it lower and further back. Thanks for the thoughts, helped to work through the process.
It's surprising how many you see at Santa Pod etc. Weird in fact !!
But if mounting where he wants, I'd be doing a proper custom cell that at least looks like it was meant to be there, rather that ramming something in that doesn't
And also trying to keep as much mass as low as possible to help the CoG etc.

Yep, if I wanted something that looked really nice I would have kept the lovely ralloy one haha. A rectangle type cell mounted reasonably low in the boot area won't look to bad I don't think - the boot floor will be lowered to accept it and I'll also make it so it has a couple of different mounting points so I can fine tune the weight distribution.
If I wanted to keep it where the picture shows, yes I would get a custom one which straddled the diff floor and in between the link boxes.
Yes, I know what you mean about tanks in the cabin, I've seen a few in the UK but over here I havent seen any that shouldn't have been there - the scrutineers are firm but fair. Cheers
