Mk1 bonnet spring adjustment

Ok so been f*****g around for 2 hours now trying to get my bonnet right and it seems impossible. When its latched closed and springs locked. I can still push to bonnet down another 5mm ish which is we're it needs to be to line up with my wings. How he he'll can I adjust it ? It's either seized, or rusted completely sollid, or there not adjustable ?

wind up the rubber bump stops at either side to take up the downward travel. you may have to do one more than the other to level the gap
