Registration numbers??????

Has anyone ever wondered about the numbers used on cars in advertisements?
I'm at work and it just dawned upon me, that they never seem to have any relevance to anything. You know, like if you were advertising a Focus RS you would use the reg RS04 FOC for example.
Whats your thoughts, or have I lost it

They use dateless reg numbers so that in theory they don't have to change the car advert every time a new reg number comes out.

Also, I know it was an example but RS04 FOC is meaningless?

Aparently some of these odd looking numbers are used because they are reversible. They can electronically filp the pictures to show a RHD or LHD car.
