Which coil do I need ?
I want to fit a sports coil to fire up a kent crossflow engine in my kit car, which uses a Luminition Optronic ignition system, no ballast resistor.
Thought I needed a Lucas DLB105, but other sites seem to suggest a DLB198.
Can't find out what the differences are. Maybe electronic ignition built into the distributor.
Can anyone help or maybe have a phone number for Lucas technical help if they still exist.
Thanks

I doubt it matters. As long as you have a non ballasted coil for electronic ignition. That is just my opinion though.

Re: Which coil do I need ?
If you have the normal Lumenition Optronic ignition with the silver amplifier (not the performance kit with the black one), you will need the DLB105 coil as the amplifier has no current limiting circuit.
Using a coil for OE electronic ignitions (like the DLB198) will give smoke-signals (!).
Make sure the Lumenition amp and the coil get a proper 12V feed (no resistor-wire). If you have a multimeter at hand measure the resistance of the coil (between both low-voltage terminals); it should be 2.9 - 3.1 ohms. Anything less than 2.5 is not good.
