best sitcom ever

i was watching the top 100 sitcoms tonight, and being a massive expert on the sitcom subject i obviously have a big interest.

anyway out of the top ten of:

blackadder
vicar of dibley (WTF is that doing there)
yes minister
fawlty towers
only fools and horses
dads army
the good life
one foot in the grave
porridge
open all hours

i would get these down to a final 5 of :
porridge
only fools and horses
fawlty towers
blackadder
open all hours

and really all of these 5 are so good its difficult to choose, but i would probably end up dropping open all hours and porridge to get a top 3. open all hours has a few dodgy "not that funny" episodes and the others just stand out more than porridge for me. despite the fact that i dont think i've ever seen another prog cast so well as porridge considering the massive amount of characters. you just wouldnt ever get that quality of cast ever again.

anyway i didnt know who to vote for on www.bbc.co.uk/sitcom but ended up voting for blackadder because i cant really remember a bad episode, i can watch them over and over again and not get too bored, fools and horses went shit the last few years and now i wish i voted for fawlty towers!

i remember watching a prog with john cleese & conny booth who wrote fawlty towers. they said they spent 6 weeks writing each episode, compare to a modern sitcom which is 2-3 days per episode and you will see why classics dont happen very often no more (apart from the office and pheonix nights).

anyway whats other peoples views and reasoning on the top ten.

Yes minister deserves to be near the top, it is so clever and still valid today. Even Maggie T commented on how scarily accurate it was.

We all know OFAH will win, but I think Blackadder should win.

The one I absolutely loved but does not appear here was The New Statesman. Alan B'Stard and Piers Fletcher Dervish, absolutely side splitting genius. Rick Mayle's finest work IMO.

No mention of Bottom? What about that one with the punks living in a house - the Young Ones wasn't it (Rik again), that was great. Alan Partridge surely gets into the top 5. Are you being served deserves a mention too, and that one with the grumpy git in a hospital, and ever decreasing circles - but those probably don't make the top 10. Still much better than the Vicar of Dibley. What about Royston Vahsey? On the buses? Absolutely Fabulous?

grumpy git in a hospital, wasnt that "only when i laugh" with james bolam. victor meldrew and peter bowles were in it aswell. that was number 74.

on the buses was number 53.

whoever voted for these was shit. hancocks half hour is way down in the 30s and it was the quintessential sitcom, setting the standard for the rest. and the streets were empty (literally) when that was on TV.

dibley shouldnt be in the top 10 IMHO and this was reiterated on the tv program about it! also i think "just good friends should have been alot higher up.

Always thought 'Keeping up Apearances' was crap tho....

keeping up apearances was the shits.

nightingales was that the one with robert lindsay as a security guard, that was class.

game on was good aswell, better on the 1st series with ben chaplin as matt malone (skunkpussy)

they were slating terry and june on the program, but i thought it was cool when terry was taking a photo and walking backwards, straight into a swimming pool

and the way he would be surprised and do a long high pitched "JUUUUNNNNNEEEE!" in a typically penfold voice.
