If the cam belt snaps its scrap
Used bits easy to get now but some parts hold silly prices
(rad fan motor, mirrors, inlet manifold n wood rim steering wheels)
As said vis motors go in the inlet manifold and door handles brake

Plugs on the rear bank is a pain apperantly.

4 cyl K-series ain't as bad after they've had the uprated gasket, oil rail and bolts (like my 1.8T MG ZT).

Watch for sticky door handles, flooded plenum were the ECU sits as it can lead to all sorts of strange faults (usually the drains get clogged), Check wheel alignemtn as they are 4 wheel asjustable amking the rears a tad bit more suspectible to knocks etc.

I really like my '04 mkI ZT

Ive seen a few with water ingress in the cabin that has damaged the ECU and corroded the multiplug, the cause is the scuttle panel drains blocking and the water run overflows into the pollenfilter through the airbox and straight out on to the ECU, ive got a couple going dring them out and spraying with wd40 but how long the go on for is anybodys guess.
Also ive seen a few with rad fan issues and they apparently are like rocking horse poo.
