    Hi All, Mk1 Escort rebuild, based in North Kent

    Just got a car, 1968 Mk1 2 door, originally 1100 super but had some minor mods since.

    Want to build a trackday car more than a show car, currently thinking Duratec with Mazda gearbox (same as my Caterham) but not sure best option for suspension, brakes, wheels, tyres etc.

    Spending a lot of time looking at the cars on here, plenty of inspiration!

    Cars arrived! I've been looking at EcoBoost options as well. Seem to be a lot more affordable aftermarket ECU options now available, which would make the swap a whole lot easier.

    the 1.6 looks quite small and light with power up to 300 bhp apparently

    will look into the 2.0 as well.

    You'll be on your own with regard to fitting an 'ecoboost' engine! The beauty of the zetec's and duratec's is block to rwd gearbox bolt patterns match - ecoboost who knows?
    Also small / light / hi-output / hi-stress engine against a normal / lighter / tunable output / lower stressed engine, I know which i'd pick for a 'project' LOL

    There was an issue of retroford in the last couple of years with a guy who put an ecoboost in a mk2, i'll try to find out which one it was. Might be useful to get a back copy. Think it was just a case of trying to see what he could do - not that it was necessariuly the best thing to do.

    Big forced-induction power = YB turbo
    Ease = Zetec
    Big NA power = XE, Duratec
    Crazy NA budget = Millington

    pretty sure it bolts straight to a mazda 5 speed, as its based on a sigma engine but will keep researching!

    I'm going for a trackday car rather than a daily user, so max power/torque to minimum weight are important.
