hey you cant be called percy, thats me!
www.adrianflux.co.uk are pretty cheap for young-uns, check in the back of max power mag, fast ford, performance ford mags etc . i remember at that age i would have to ring about 15 or 20 places before getting a decent quote and they all varied wildly - some would say they wouldnt insure me at that age on a fiat 126. one place quoted me £1000 3rd pty only on the 650cc fiat 126 which cost me £100! i ended up paying £400 for the 1st year.
or get it insured in someone elses name with you as a named driver
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Don't go near Flux! They may be cheap but they make up for that by being really
Look at this thread mate for some places to try
I wouldnt go near them again
Try Highway Insurance.
Nope highway dont touch 17 year olds
Flux told me they are not competitive for 17 year olds
Im with cis for £860 under my mum on a 1.1 fiesta, was the cheapest quote i got. Others say tesco...but as of now i thinkn i am right in saying for 17 year olds that cis is the best
The key here is to ring every where
Trust me I saved over a grand in about 30 mins of calls
Fords are shit cars for 1st timers to insure - Vauxhalls are the best.
cheers,oh and dont worry percy!!!-its just my nickname!! insurance is gay!i had a quote for a vauxhall corsa gls 12v (summet like dat) only a 976cc and its over 2k insurance-oh and ive spent hours gettin online quotes, but does ringin em sumtimes help get a cheaper quote or summet??
Yep ring around. I found online quotes to be
Clio's are meant to be cheap to insure. Crap car though.
Lee
Try www.liverpoolvictoria.com
They do an online quote and then phone em up.
I saved £400 through them on my 405.
I now pay £900 a year fully comp with all mods declared, I got the quote when I was 20 and had no no claims.
Good luck!
Dave!
The cis one i said about https://tr3.cis.co.uk/motor/index.html their online quote was 50p more expensive than the one they pulled up on the phone. Very good company imo for the first year. Go under one of your parents on a new policy and it will be under 1k probably. I was getting quoted over 2k for myself on the fez.
nobody else drives in ma family,if you want car insurance in sum1 elses name do they hav 2 be family?
just bin on the cis insurance m8,its no gud-norwich union is my best bet i think or liverpool victoria.is there anything else i can do to lower my premium like the pass plus thing?
percy isnt my real name either but i thought i had found a unique name!
nope its not unique if i got it! its gay wen ppl shout it in da streets, coz people think its my real neme!!! we both FORT it waz unique
Unfortunately the message here from the insurance companies is don't drive until you are over 30..
yep, my brothers 17 and just past his test, i've been keeping my old astra 1.4 for him and the cheapest quote he's got on it is £1800 TPO!!!
PJay
Why doesn't the UK use the continental system of insuring the car, not the driver?
I've never even heard of this system but then i am from england!?! i don't see how they can insure the driver only, you'd be looking at a fixed premium whether you drove a corsa or a cosworth!?!?! can't be right surely?
Why doesn't the UK use the continental system of insuring the car, not the driver?
PJay
Maybe a fixed premium where you can only drive a car upto insurance group 5 for example? What you think?
not too sure on that either, still takes the elemant of risk out of it?
I do agree that something must be done, insurance has gone crazy, i had a 1.6sr astra for my 1st car and it was £800 TPFT 7 years ago and now my brother can't insure a 1.4 for less that £1800 TPO, it's more than doubled in 7 Years!!!!!!!!
Does this mean that in another 7 years time 17 yr old's are going to have to find over £3.5k to insure there 1st car. and worse still will my insurance be up to over £5 Grand
PJay
Insurance for a 17 year old just can't be done cheaply! last year i was 18, first year driving on a 1.2 nova i payed £3000!!!! 1 year on, 2 cars stole(none of which claimed off insurance) for a 1.3 sr nova i'm paying £1700!!!!! insurance companys are just taking the piss
the lesson is, don't have a nova!
i'm 18, and i was paying £500 on a Mk1 Escort 1300GT when i was 17. i was a 2nd driver on my old mans policy with full NCB though. that was with Tesco
there is a small gang of us young'uns with old skool Fords, and most of us seem to be with CIS. In my first year of driving aged 17, i went with Ford Insure. It cost me £500 fully comp under my dad, and my car was a 1979 mk2 1.1 with just the wheels listed. When this ran out, they then quoted me over £900 to renew my insurance!!
I then took put a 1300GT in with fast road cam, Perormace filter e.t.c..and rang CIS.They quoted me £550 TPFT for all mods listed including Lowering e.t.c, and also i had picked up 3 points by then. However, CIS said that becuase points from speeding were so common now, they dont bump up the premium with them, and also, only engine mods mattered to them, they werent bothered about exterior upgrades e.t.c
Still, ive fooked it all up now by getting 6 points and having my license revoked
Dan
forgot to say-im still under my dads name though with CIS
it's all gone mad, just before my 18th (6 yr's ago?) i bought a cavalier gsi 4x4 group 15 insurance had licence 6 months, £1400 fully comp in my own name! Try insuring 1 of them even now as an 18 year old!!

6years ago Vauxhalls were totally underrated insurance wise, they've now been thrashed crashed and burned so have caught up. I was 17 in an Astra 1.6 SR a car very capable of doing 130+ and cost me next to nothing to insure (600FC).
I had a mk1 1.6sr as my first car, probably the most fun car i've had!
