    insurance ques

just wondering if theres anybody who knows the law reguarding insurance, basically just bought the mrs a car to learn to drive in,which she has not yet got insured,on my policy i can drive any car not owned by me third party only providing i have the owners consent, the car is taxed motd and in her name,so the question is, does the car itself have to be insured for me to legally drive it or am i ok to drive it third party only even though there is no insurance on this car? hope this makes sense and someone can help, many thanks.

I wouldnt risk it as legally the police can seize any car in use or parked on the public highway that isnt insured. Your wifes car would come up as uninsured.
I believe that to be covered by your insurance the vehicle should be insured by its owner.

ok thanks guys, i wasnt sure and a guy at work said that a mate of his had his car siezed for no insurance but he collected it from the police compound for him as he could drive any car 3rd party only with the owners consent and the police checked his insurance document and were happy to let him take the car once the storage fee had been paid, bit of a grey area i think and people should be aware of this.
