Got back from Florida today, we had one of the last flights out of there before the airports were shut, left at 4.10pm yesterday airport was shutting at 5.00pm, a lot of people were being sent back.
The weather was already pretty scary at that point, our car was being blown from lane to lane frequently on tha way there, and to be honest I wished we were on a later flight and got cancelled so we wouldn't have to take off in it

There was a real sense of urgency to the way the plane was boarded, everyone was on and strapped in 45 minutes before take off, but it was OK after all, once airborne climbed very quickly to get above the storm and had a smooth flight home.

Now just got to wait and see if our villa has survived it's 3rd hit by hurricanes in 6 weeks

Hiya, glad you got bak o.k, my flight was the last to leave florida, we left sanford airport at5.00pm saturday night, ive been told that sanford closed immediately after my flight left, orlando international also shut down at 5pm. It really was damn scary though, on the way to sanford you see all the houses that have beeen trashed by the previouse hurricanes - trees sitting on peoples cars and debris thron across fields and god knows what. Almost every house had roof tiles missing, some had just been boarded up and abandoned. The villa staye at was directly in its projected path, so i was damn lucky to get out!!!

Ah you drew the short straw for the 5pm flight! I was shitting it on the 4:10 from Sanford, was it a bumpy take off??

Just heard from our management company our villa is OK again, very relieved

lol, yeah, glad your villas o.k, we need to wait till tomorrow to see if ours is still standing.

the take off was pretty smooth to be honest, suffered heavy turbulence about 20 mins in to the flight though. We phoned the airport and they said to get too the airport asap, we sat in sanford for 7 hours just watching the weather turn from gorgeous sun, to cloud, to high winds, to all out storm. Was scary watching people straining to walk across the airfield when you knew that you had to take off in a few minutes time

ring your tour operator/ airline /hotel, they will tell you
