    Bad news fron the Nurburgring

A few of my friends went to germany last weekend as it was the last weekend with the track open fri sat sun.....
Anyway my mate Carl sold his e36 M3 to buy a 51 plate M3 convertible.
whilst peddling it going through Adenal he lost the rear end and hit the barriers bounced of that, across the track and into the barries the other side.
Ripped the O/f leg complete with wheel brakes anti roll bar complete which fell to rest 200 yards further up the road. And did other very bad damage!!
They shut the track for 2 hours as ambalance was needed.
He is fine but a bit shaken with a few cuts and bruises.
But it has cost hin £4000 so far for the repairs to the barriers and cleaning of the track and time the track was shut.
So this is the second person i know that has come home from germany without there car as it was impounded, as some else i know smashed up his 32GTR a few weeks ago
Loads of fun in germany but its fooking expensive if you come off....
Also if you break it badly you will have to get a lift from your friend especially if its impounded!!!
there is loads more i could tell but they took his passport of him untill most of the £4000 was paid, and he still has to pay more so they will release his car.
Gutted for him big time and makes me think about pushing that bit harder on the track when im out there

Re: Bad news fron the Nurburgring

When we went on the CF tour this year, a fella went to the ring and smashed his car up. Cost loads, including a fine for dangerous driving (it is classed as a toll road).
I'm glad he isn't hurt apart from in his pocket.

Re: Bad news fron the Nurburgring

You can get cover for the car but if you damage the track you have to pay.
For time lost whilst track is shut, cleaning of the oils spilled, damaged to barriers, towing of the track, and any service vehicles that are needed, ambalance, fire engine ect
They dont advertise that now do they, Or that fact they impound your car untill all fines are paid for!!!
And thanks for the messages he his fine now, just pissed of as he never thought how much his weekend away has come to!!!

Re: Bad news fron the Nurburgring

This is the one reason I'll never set a wheel on that track. The Technical Director of a company I used to work for had a GT2 ex-race Porsche that was converted back to road legal, he took that on their and did £5700 worth of damage to the track etc. That old circuit is old, and dangerous, and even in a 1.0 Ka you could lose it badly.

I was thinking of doing the track next year, but thanks for the info as I have now changed my mind. Couldn't possibly afford that much money and then the repairs to the car!!

That would be a real downer!

It's classed as a road so i wonder if the track day insurance would cover it.I've never quite understood that place although i've been aware of the fact that if you damage the track/road? or barriers etc then you gotta pay, didn't realise they impound your car and take your passport until you paid up.
I mean what would happen if you just never had the money to pay and couldn't raise it what would they do then? bang you up?
Screw that. I for one would never go all the way there to race on a road.I'd much rather go to a real track closer to home

The Nordschleife (northern loop) of the Nurburgring is an awesome place to drive on. Treat it with respect (and look out for what the maniacs are doing ...) then you will be okay.
For your first couple of laps you do, take a time when it's fairly busy. The average speed will be lower compared to when it's quiet and you can see cars and what they are doing (speed, direction) for 100 - 200 meters ahead. That way you know what's coming.

when i went 2 years ago the bikes were the pain ,no disrespect to bikers but they don't look behind them ,to be safe out there you need a co pilot to keep a look out behind ,while the driver looks in front
anywhere worth going out there near the track ?

Re: Bad news fron the Nurburgring

insurance on the ring ! it's a fooking nightmare to be fair you have to have medical to cover sevice's (first aid etc)
breakdown for the car eg for them to tow it out at 210euro's
Race Cover which cover's your car to do above the speed limit (even on a track) eu law (i also need it for the rally car in france)

Guys read all the small print
    Keep the toe in !

    And the arse out

It's the same situation at Spa, you damage the Armco you pay for it!
Fortunately when I had my little off there I just rearranged the tyre wall a bit so I didn't have a big bill from the circuit to pay for on top of everything else.

Been there a few times with cossy max and had a great time.Like others have said you must drive within your limits it takes many laps to get to know the ring. Also someone said about having a passenger to keep a look out behind for you which is a good idea as cars and bikes approuch so quickly. Its a great place to go,theres no where else like it so dont be put off by all the bad news,go but just be carefull.

I'm off to the 'ring this weekend. Proper track day though. Still have to pay for barrier repairs but no worries on track closures or motorbikes. Just the small worry of a 599XX on the track at the same time!!!!!!

It can be very expensive, but you can take out insurance now for being towed off the track and few other things as well,
It was next to the entrance to the track cubicle which advertised for ADAC i was talking to fella about whilst out there over easter.

    Mmmmm, £8.5K

Get yourself a race licence and you could have a full season of proper racing for that amount.
