    Not exactly mate, there is a 'RS' shell called a type 49 shell which is a slightly strengthend shell, doesnt make much difference though to be honest.

    And if you are that bothered by it there are kits to turn normal shells into type 49 shells.

    There is also an export shell as we know it in the uk, its kind of in between a std and type 49 shell for export markets, usually has type 49 shell top plates fitted to the inner wing and some other bits but im unsure as to what.

    there are also various age related differences. bonnet hinges, bulkhead holes, rear shock mounts and god knows what else !

    I have a export shell, it has the top plates plus inner, rear chassis strengthening and the bolts through the boot floor as std, no anti tramp bars but with a rear anti roll bar fitted as std fitment

    The 68 models had no ARB and different rear suspension mounts.

    early modela had door locks in the handles, later ones were below the handle,also very early ones had different front suspension set up

    Some things on early escorts:

    Locks in door handles.
    External bonnet release.
    Washer jets on bonnet.
    Heater dome goes to a point either side.
    Compression struts (no arb).
    Sticky out petrol filler neck.
    Washer bottle on drivers side.
    Rear shocks mounted on a bar.

    Maybe a couple more things thats all i can remember.

    The loom splits down both sides on the early models as well. Mines an F like the one pictured.

    Rear fire wall is different to ... some of the floor pressings are different .. and the 'C' Pillar

    type 49's are easier to fake than turning a late shell into an early one
