Gatso question...
I've always asumed that Gatsos can only take your pic when you're driving away from them, and you can only be prosecuted when there are white measuring lines on the road under the car.....
Is this right?
Got flashed whist going head on the other day doing 10mph over, no lines at that side of the road either.....
Are they set up to flash oncoming traffic just to scare you into thinking they work that way as well, or have I maybe got a few points coming my way???

Re: Gatso question...
they dont need the white lines, just makes it easier to get a conviction. dunno about flashing you from in front, i thought they weernt allowed in case of blinding you?

Re: Gatso question...
I'd raise a legal issue about them then. It is illegal for anything to cuase a white 'flash' at drivers eyes, for obvious reasons.

Re: Gatso question...
There's one near me that I go out of my way to flash me on other side of the road. Done it loads of times and never heard anything!
Silly I know.................but fun.

Re: Gatso question...
Gatso were designed to cover BOTH sides of the road. They were initially designed to do this BUT
This is from memory :
Someone took one of the police forces to court and won on the grounds that the detector could pick up stray images when covering oncoming traffic and thus the speed calculation could be inacurate. Because of this all gatso's were changed to cover one side of the road and the lines painted to 'calibrate' the evidence.
As far as I am aware no gatso can be used to prosecute you when you are traveling towards it.

Re: Gatso question...
you can set them off travelling towards them i always used to do it on the way to work its the radar reading the speed you won't get done if it happens too much the put a forward facing one next to it

Re: Gatso question...
they definetely arent allowed to give you a ticket if it flashed in your face, as you say they used to have them set up to do that to scare you. they were supposed to have changed them all so they dont do it no more but obviously theres some left.
and no they dont have to have the white lines on the road.

Re: Gatso question...
Cool, thats pretty much what I thought.
So no big deal if I get flashed head on now and again, but I bet theres the chance that some more canny forces might take note if the same car turns up on the same camera time and time again.........
They might not be able to prosecute for thoese pix, but you never know your reg' could get blacklisted and you could end up getting pulled constantly......(been there, it gets annoying!)

Re: Gatso question...
i dont take the risk of speeding going towards a gatso anyway, because they change the laws so often without notifying anybody that knowing my luck i would flash one head on on the day the laws changed!
not saying the law will change but i just darent take the risk with those piss taking money ripping bastards.
