    Tropical Fish keepers?

    Any fish keepers on here?

I have a 4' 260 litre tank with quite a few large fish in it and have largely lost interest in them and could do with the space back that they take up. Trouble is, I don't know what to do with them (no suggestions along the lines of cooking / flushing them please )

Anyone else been in this predicament and if so what did you do? The tank and ancillaries obviously have value as the whole set up would be upwards of £450 new, but what do I do with the fish?

i used to keep fish and keep thinking about getting some more, the lack of space and size investment needed to start again keeps putting me off.

i used to have a local pet/fish shop that would buy fish back off me, they even used to buy guppy's and im sure you know how quickly they breed

I tried taking one back to a petshop when it out grew my tank (12" yellow tailed barb) but none of them were interested. I guess larger fish are harder to find homes for as fewer people are interested in them. All of mine are medium to large now.

    I know how you feel.
    I've got a 5 foot 320litre tank.
Ihad a load of tinfoil barbs years ago, and a shoal (12) of 8" clown loach.
i was lucky, local Aquatics shop staff member had them off me.
I now have a shoal (120+) of fully grown cardinal tetras (like neons, only better, lol).
try "practical fishkeeping" magazine, or local zoo/aquarium.
In 25 yrs of keeping fish I don't think I've ever seen a yellow tailed barb though

Spot my deliberate mistake, a golden or yellow tinfoil barb not a yellow tailed barb. I called it that because, well it had a yellow tail I guess.

The others are regular tinfoil barbs with red fins and tails. I have 3 of them at about 6 - 8", 3 spanner barbs, a sydontis, a bristle nosed catfish, and two large parrot fish. I had a large sailfin plec until the other day too but found it pan bread at the bottom of the tank.

    Re: Tropical Fish keepers?

    When I was a kid I had a 12"+ pleco.
    Indistructable you might think?
I gave it to a friend of mine as it was getting too big for the layout of my tank.
    His 8" Oscar ate it!!
Shoal of Tinfoils looks cool when they're small but once they grow a bit they're a bit unruly, thats why mine went.
Tank's now only small tetra's (amazon) except for a remaining clown loach I can't catch cos of all the bogwood and java fern.
Got some wicked Crystal shrimps last week (Blood red and white), they're Just about big enough not to get eaten by the full grown glowlight tetras i have.Good job, they were £8 each
The Japonica (?) shrimps (10 I think) are nearly full size@about 60mm, and I have a decent sized Angler Shrimp that looks spectacular when its in full light.
Nothing in the tank now is either territorial, or aggressive.
Finally - after 25 years trial and error.
