Well there was a group of pikeys camped on the road outside the circuit and a couple of them were trying to steal my wheels whilst I sat on the start line

but seriously, there is a timing strut fixed to the front of the car which breaks a timing beam that goes across the track and the two marshals were rolling the car forward by the wheels to line it up with the beam and another marshall at the rear of the car then puts a wooden chock under one of the rear wheels to stop the car rolling back. Then once the green light comes on you have two minutes to start your run.

And as for my finish position, I was actually 1st in my class, but the organisers amalgamated the class with the modified kit car class, so three of them beat me, so on on the results sheets we were 4th in class

Thats what i thought, either that or that was how they got their kicks rubbing up tyres !!

Well done coming 4th (1st really)
