    *mk 1 project NZ *

so after trying to find myself a mk1 2 door body cheap here in nz and placing adds every where i could for a body.
even stating that i dont realy cear what condition its in it has still takin me 5 months and i finaly found one for $100.

its in a shed in otago about 4 hour drive from me so i went and had a look and bought it

went back down on the weekend and picked it up.

its a mk1 2door dont know what year at the moment.
its got a lot of rust and 1 front gaurd that has a 1300xl
badge on it no motor ,box or shaft and has drum brakes all round.

its got all the glass, boot, bonnet and all in all its perfect for my slow build and belive me guys this will have to be slow as i dont have a lot of spear cash each week so im going to try and do most if not all the work myself with the help of you all

ideas wise im going for bubble archs, up graded brake and drive line mabe out of a ford falcon or nissan skyline so its discs all round and 5 stud pattern.

motor wise i WISH we had cossy over here as i would love one but they cost shit loads so the way ill be going will be nissan sr20 turbo.

ill post some pics when i get home so you all can check the beast out

    and let the build begin.

    cheers all
    dan

    cheers mate
the main question is did you have to move your fire wall back and cut back the rad suport to get it all in there .

    cheers

I see your on oldschool.co.nz as well. Ive chopped my radiator supportpanel out and theres a perfect sized intercooler on trade me as well i just got. You wont have to chop the fire wall but do have to enlarge the tunnel slightly. Making up enfine mounts is no biggie, ive used the original nissan one and just made some new ones on the cross member to suit which are in the original escort position. Was thinkin of using a civic alloy race radiator as well since they are small, but might have to do a bit of research on that one.

i used one of those rac civic rads on my old mazda that was a 360hp 1800 and the i never had any probs with the temp.

and to be honest the size of those things are mint you can put them in almost anything.

    hope that helps you man.

so i started stirpping the rest of the body and strated at the back and to be honest im pretty happy with the shell.

i removed the fuel tank and theres not even surface rust under it. the other side is a has a wee bit and just the boot floor aswel.

ill try and get the rest stripped and get some pics this weekend.

    cheers

Re: *mk 1 project NZ *

    so just to up date
    i found my doner car
its a 86 holden commodore (the model with the nissan rb30)

the car itself isnt in bad condition so i got it all road legal and will use it as a daily runner till next year.
i also found the wheels i was after
roh 16x8 and they came with a good set of 225x50x16 tyres

but the main part is the motor
    a sweet running rb30 sohc

i will rebuild the motor be for it goes in to the mk1 with new rings and bearings get the head ported and polished keep the stander n/a cam and make a custom manifold so i can bolt a gt 35/40 turbo to it and canhge the intake so that the throttle body is face the front as well as chang it to a xf falcon throttle body.

ill keep updating as i go most of the work will be next year when i strip all the running gaer from the vl commodore.

    cheers

Re: *mk 1 project NZ *

i also got a new front panel and rails were the gaurds go.

and ordered my fiberglass parts the guy thats doing them is making the frond gaurds and front bubble archs one peace
    from a new mould.
and the rear bubbles ive got him to make 50mm wider each side to cover the wheels.

so when hes finished them ill post some pics up.
its so good to be driving a big nissan RB30 and it goes well in the holden cant wait till its got a turbo and sitting in my little mk1

Re: *mk 1 project NZ *

just found a couple of pics of the motor with turbo set up

the motor itself is a nissan rb30et same as the skyline motors but 3l a few of the drift boys overe here are now using the rb30 block and slapping a n/a rb20/25 head on it and turboing them and getting some good results.

so thats something i may look at down the line.

    both realy
at first it was a toss up between the rb25det or the toyota turboed six .
but becourse most of the drifters over here are running the rb motors they have become expensive.

so i had a look around and measured up a few motors and the rb30 that came out in the r31 skylines and vl commodores would be a good fit and the blocks them self have all the oil feed and returns as well as wter feed and retunrs in them they are just pluged up so turboing it will be nice and easy.

and it pulls hard now in a heavy old holden so with a turbo and escort shell it will be better.

    cheers

yeh the toyota supra motors are pretty cheap over here
as all the guys doing drifting are useing the rb20,rb25,rb26,rb30 motors.
so they are a good option and theres room in the capri bay.

i wanted the engine back as far as i can without having to cut to much out so the fire wall cut back to the window will have the motor in there with just the 1st cylinder infront of the stuts ... so thats not to bad
