Ford X/Flow Screamer in Modsports Turner Sports Car

Charity 002.jpgModsports.jpgHMSA 941.jpgCharity.jpgTurner.jpgThe Turner Sports Car MK2 Ford came with various Ford engines and this old 1961 race car is VUD 701 the Ex John Miles Veedol Championship winning car that conquered many of the works cars of Jaguar and Ferrari using a 1650cc all steel Cosworth Pre X/Flow.
During its racing years it has used many Ford competition engines including the 1840cc Twin Cam.One of the most successful was the 1575cc all steel short stroke pre X/Flow engineered by Cosworth that chucks out very healthy BHP,this engine is sripped and stored in oil.The internals are all FVA steel bits.
Today the car uses an All Steel Ford 1824cc X/Flow built by Cosworth and runs a high octane pump fuel.

Steel vernier Duplex with double pad vernier,
Holbay special access front cover,
Titan S.L roller rockers and steel posts,

Isky race springs-shimmed platforms for over 9,000 rpm,
Titanium race caps,
Steel 12 bolt Skelton flywheel,
AP 7.25 race clutch with cintered paddle,
Titan 5 port dry sump pump-adjustable pressure,
Titan dry sump centre-rear scavenge sump,
Mocal remote filters with braided hoses,
Mocal dry sump tank with aircraft feed and return hoses,breather system inc,
25mm toothed water belt drive,
45 DCOE carbs on Hi Flow matched and dowelled manifold,
Stainless Exhaust system fabricated by friends SIMPSON nr Slough,Berks.
Lotus Dizzy with comp leads,
Lumiinition ignition system,will be going over to solid state coil,mappable ECU,sensors and trigger in 2010.

Nice spec,fabulous BHP and with the car @ 50/50 weight distribution and weighing only 485kilos the performance is incredible.

Is this the Mike Lawler (think that is the right spelling) car driven by John Miles in the mid sixtys. If it is then we had many a dice, Turner Miles as we knew him was earmarked as the next Jimmy Clark in our books, could not beat him even in my E at Snett going flat out going down the Norwich Straight full bore, he still bloody pulled away from me, 'Had to rev to over 8 thou to keep ahead of this big old E type '.
Does anyone know where John is, would like to set up a meeting with him and the other John Miles, last time I saw him was at Brands, he on crutches from a crash at Mont Carlo and me from just about able to stand from a crash at Brands, parting words where 'This motor racing is not worth it' , he then hobbled off into the crowd.

Yes this car use to belong to Mike Lawlor who was I believe a partner with John E Miles in the early days of this cars racing debuts at places like Brands Hatch etc.
There has been many owner drivers of this Turner Sports Car VUD 701 that has competed against you in the past,other drivers are Jeff Daryn,Tony Dunderdale,Mark Hales,big Tony Broome,Lee Barton,John Moore and Chris Fulke Greville.

Bromley Pageant is one of the great one day shows in the UK,in fact possibly one of the best anywhere.
This racing Turner Sports Car VUD 701 is always at this show right next door to the organisers tent and arena area with kind thanks to the owners mates @ Live Promotions.
What I love about this show is that the spectators and exibitors are so knowledgable and enthusiastic about all forms of cars and their modifications and looking around at some of the cars on display,full credit to the preparations.

This racing Turner VUD 701 went on the rolling road the other week but it was showing a bit of trouble with the camshaft it uses,it revved really well upto and over 9,000rpm but it was flat from 7,500rpm.It turns out that the cam it has been using is a Burton A9 Hot Rod cam and it should be using a Kent A8+.
Oh well engine out later and replace it.

The Turner Race Car VUD 701 was seen at this years Crystal Palace event organised by the Sevenoaks Motor Club,this Turner went really well and beat the glorious 'Stovebolt Special' 6 litre HWM Chevrolet of Simon Taylor,a great event.
