We went to Rallyday on Saturday and the highlight for me was seeing the new MK2 that Simon Mauger will be using next year.

Below are the pics that we took, but it wasn't till i got home that i realised i hadn't taken any of the whole car! I have never seen so many blokes all looking under a car at a show.

Jon of JEMS was really open and happy to talk about the car and what they wanted to achieve with it. They plan to do some testing soon and then when it is ready they will hit the stages Its based loosely on a Grp4 Escort but with new ideas. Jon is a forum sponsor along with Tom of Fostek, so i feel it only fair to give them a nice plug.

I just know this is going to be one hell of a package, and it will be interesting to see how it compares to Simons current Escort, and hopefully it will beating WRC's soon.

I wish them well in their campaign and i will be watching closely [read as stalking at events!] with interest.

Thanks for talking to me on Saturday Jon, i hope it passed its MOT and maybe you can post up some more pictures and keep us updated on your progress.

Funny because I wondered that too, then I thought don't be daft why would you put a Firewall in a car then put the Tank the passenger compartment side of it...

I suppose it's a Fuel Cell type tank is it?

Not from me. Not sure about FIA, but if its a bag tank then it doesn't matter does it? I'm guessing here, as i've not read the blue book since i built my mini 10 years ago!

ref. the tank - There's an orange IRS mk2 that's been for sale for a while, it has a box behind the seats for oil and fuel tanks. Lovely build. Has a logbook so it complys with all the regs.

It's on eBay at the mo, he sent me some more interior pics nas the ones in the ad don't show the tank.

I had a tank behind the seats on a previous rally car, it was an ATL fuel cell and had to be in an alloy enclosure to comply sufficiently for log book, we nearly always had grief getting through scrutineering each time it was a scrut who hadn't seen the car before.

That Mk2 has a lot of nice tweaks!

they start at 29k+vat bare engine they produce when mapped in the car 340bhp and circa 275lbft simons is the same sort of figures with his awesome tractive sequencial it will almost certainly be an awesome combo was talking to mel at autosport and they are looking to shake down soon i did say goodwood towncross stages in feb as i am doin it too

simon wore the newness off at the weekend!!! if an awesome car dut he did winnthe event at goodwood in very bad weather oil on circuit he had a few spins and still won by 3 seconds to paul king who was also flying in his also awesome eccort search 1000hanu on youtube for pauls incar

Needs a light restoration underneath, but otherwise in fine fettle. I put the gold wheels on. Everything on it is top spec, except the pedalbox was purge gash so i'm in the process of fitting a nice tilton, which as these things go is no small job.
