Re: knocked up a quickshift but...
Sounds like you've cut the spring of or removed it which holds the gear stick up so stopping it selecting reverse i e when u push down on it.

Re: knocked up a quickshift but...
Have you made sure that the rubber boot thing is compressed when the top lever is in place ? If the boot is not compressed (i.e. the lever part is clamped on too high up the original lever) then you will get the problem you are experiencing.
Well I did anyway...

Re: knocked up a quickshift but...
I had exactly the same problem when i fitted mine. The bigger spacer of the two needs to be cut down about 1mm @ at a time until its stops going in automatically. I think i took me 2 goes to get it right.

Re: knocked up a quickshift but...
what spacer are you talking about, the steel one that goes right at the bottom of the lever (that ones never going to come back off), the plastic one halfway up the shaft that sits ontop of the rubber boot or the spacer that sits inbetween the gearbox and the plate on the bottom of the lever?
can i just cut a little off the top of the original shaft, so the boot is more compressed?
also, i might have the plastic/rubber cups the wrong way around. anyone have an exploded diagram of the lever or can give me a description of which one goes at the bottom and what way, and what on the top and what way? i think i've done it right, but it doesn't look like it did, so i'm, not 100%.
Cheers for your replys lads, Tom.

Re: knocked up a quickshift but...
was it a kit or did you make it yourself?
Problem is the lower part of the gearlever is too far into the box and is going under the detent gate that you normally have to push the stick for.
Often happens with home made ones but a kit should be OK if you followed the instructions.

Re: knocked up a quickshift but...
its a kit from Peter Lloyd Ralling. i'll take a few mil off the top of the original part of the lever so it then compresses the boot down more. hopefully that'll sort it.
i remember before, on my old 4 speed box that when the washer on top of the boot was moved when my car had work done on it, that went straight into reverse aswell.
the throw is really short on the stick now, feels much better.

Re: knocked up a quickshift but...
Mine was bought from Burtons. It was 2 plastic spacers, one big and one small, and if i remember right, i chopped a bit off the larger spacer so it wasnt as tightly packed together, which sorted it out.
