What did you pay / how did you get your 'project'?

I first saw my 'project' about 6 years ago - a 2 door MK1 parked in the car park of a block of maisonettes in Canning Town. I found out who owned it and asked if it was for sale. The bloke was not interested in selling - he had had it for 10 years and was going to 'do it up'. A mate of mine who had a garage round the corner had also tried to buy it with no luck. One day about 2 years ago, my mate phoned me while I was on my way to work and said the owner had walked into his garage and asked him if he wanted to buy it for £250 as he had got a council exchange to a house and had nowhere to park it - my mate had another project on the go so asked me if I wanted it. I said I would definately have it and would be round that afternoon to take it. My mate forgot to tell him and the owner (who had by now moved into his house 200 yards down the road) called back in and said he had already had complaints from his neighbours and the council had slapped a ticket on it and would now take £100 before they took it away and crushed it. I was round in a flash and towed it away. Result!! How did you get yours?

Re: What did you pay / how did you get your 'project'?

Went to get my mk1 mot'd at my brothers old garage and one of his mates was well interested and asked what engine i had
    "just a 1300"

    so he says
" you want a 1600 for it?.......but.............................you got to take the whole car"

"Oh right what is it then"

    "just a 2dr mk2"

"sweet its a deal how much you want?"

"nothing just take it i need the space"

so im thinking result here, went to get some of the boxes of bits and notice a silver front spoiler with harrier stickers on.....so.....

    "is it a harrier then"

    "yea"

    "a silver one"

    "yea"

    "you got the tags "

    "yea in me toolbox"

    in secret im going

And thats how i got it, now about £2-3k later its almost a car again after 10 years off the road and 2 owners before me that didnt really do much with it

But this month or next its going up for its mot and me old mate up there is gettin handed the keys to take it out for a drive cos i know it will make him well happy knowing its gone to someone who would finish what he started And i think he would rather have that memory than a bit of cash he'd spend on nothing inparticular.

    Hehehe i win then

And there was you thinking that £100 tea bag was a bargain The bloke i got mine from was struggling to find someone to give it to

They are all worth it in the long run, the way i see it is he helped me out cos it would be about £4k by now Bigjays went for £1k in roughly the same condition as mine and mine probably had more of the bits with it like interior, engine, box, etc

Any updates on yours?? last one was the new bloke at your work welding arches i think? Just about to do a big pic update on mine about 4 months worth

    Wow Dave! Free Harrier?

A friend who works in the car towing business brought me my current Mk1. He phoned me he was about to send this Mk1 to metal scrapyard. I said towed it to my garage first. When it arrived, it was an early Mk1 1100 Super, one owner, no welding, just rusting a bit in the bulkhead due to sitting for years in the heat and rain. I grabbed it for RM400 (about 57 quid), put it on a 1300 log book I already had

Re: What did you pay / how did you get your 'project'?

A lad I know bought the car I am working on about 7 years ago.
He was going to finish off the welding that it needed and then paint it.
It stood in a barn untouched until we got it, steadily rusting away.
It cost £350, which I know is rediculous but still cheaper than ebay.
I have had loads of Escorts in the past, and all of them seem to have cost the same. Most of them were in good nick though, with t&t. I think those days are long gone unfortunately.

Yep, pictures to follow soon. Inner and outer sills done, rear arches done, Front floorpans done, both lower rear wing sections and spare wheel well done, a few plates on the inner wing bumper mounting areas done, both drip rails semi done (may need to reposition before wings go on), top plates, inner wing and strenghthening cups done, lower radiator support panel replaced, front panel ready to go on too. Gonna soon start stripping the 4 door and taking out my pinto and 5 speed plus all the other bits (brakes, struts, interior, dash, wiring and especially (carefully) removing the Mexico wings.

About the only bits I won't be using from the 4 door will be the doors. Anyone want them for free?? pm me.

Re: What did you pay / how did you get your 'project'?

My little Mk1 used to belong to my aunt from new. She only used it to go the shops and back and had it serviced religously. When she died my mum inherited it and then gave it to me. It only had 14,000 miles on the clock when I got it and was purfect but years of having to stay on the drive and driving it constantly soon wore it out. So time for a full rebuild.

Re: What did you pay / how did you get your 'project'?

My white RS2000 bought as an un-finished project was £750 in 1998 bought from Andy Edwards, from an advert he was passing round at the RSOC Essex group.

Spent LOADS on it though, new doors being the most expensive single purchase. (shagged now, but not rotten )

My Blue RS2000 was £1500 in bits - another unfinished project, it had been fully painted before I got it, so a nice bargain, full history even down to the MOT's and tax discs, bill of sale, service books etc etc. I was approached at the Essex Group RS meet again about this one, Andy E and I went halves on the car and I subsequently bought him out.

My red RS2000 came from Clint as a restored Gp4 shell, the dearest one I've ever bought, but still a cheapy I saw the advert on here and bombarded Clint with messages until I got the car

I also bought another 2 RS2000's - one from being approached at the Essex RS meet (again) and one from an ad on here for bits being sold - I bought the whole car

I have turned down another RS2000 (Black) because it was completely knackered and too expensive (at the time) obviously I wish I'd bought it now, but too late for regrets

got mine of a bloke who used to come on here.. 1500 quid for the car and everything needed to convert it to pinto power, including engine, 40s, some fishnets and a few othery bits.... then i met Gary and DW and m plans changed somewhat. no idea how much i've spent so far, and i prefer not to work it out to be honest!

Re: What did you pay / how did you get your 'project'?

    Ibought a 4 door 13 years ago.
Wasn't till i got it home that i thought "that would look better with 2 doors"
I managed to source a 2 dr shell in good nick and payed 250 quid for it.
The bloke had an original mex aswell but he wanted 400 for that!
What diferance does that make i thought at the time
Well 13 years later and 3 rebuilds and i've still got it. So i guess its right what they say about getting bit by the old skool bug.
So if your reading this and havn't got an old skool ford and dont want the heartache of finding another "hole" dont bother getting one.
However i would't sell mine for any amount and to this day havn't found an affordable replacement to the countless hours of pure fun
O and the people you meet along the way can be a laugh aswell

£25 to stop it going to the scrappy.

It was on a 74 N reg plate and had no engine.

I was towed home in it sitting on a stool to steer and the only brakes that worked were the handbrake (wasn't too far only about a mile).

I sent off to DVLA for a list of all the previous owners and the first owner they had record of still lived at the same address in Bexleyheath, and he told me that it was a Twin Cam etc etc, the rest as they say - "is history"

I got given mine its a 1100 deluxe 1968 vintage 2 owners etc, needs some work though which i'm hopefully going to start in the springtime.

Plans are for a zetec conversion with mex arches for now probably go bubbles in the near future, but still can't decide on a colour , I know this is a long way of yet though just dreaming about it.
