they should have tried him on manslaughter and jailed the prick
MY MK1 ESCORT (Now turbo'd)
maybe the emotional scares will be worse than a prison stretch
was there any evidence of careless driving?

I definately think they need to bring in some form of probation period for new drivers, be it restricted to 1litre or some other form it needs to be done
We have all driven like idiots as soon as we pass, some come off worse than others tho. I was quite lucky in that i just damaged my pride and wrote off my car 3 weeks after i passed. Dont really remember what happened to make me crash, but i know that because i didnt know how to handle a car in a sticky situation i paniced and thats why i crashed![]()
A terrible shame for everyone involved.
The judge and the jury were told all the facts, and that is how they came to the conclusion it was careless driving, not dangerous driving. A Police driver said a minor error could have caused the crash, so maybe that's what happened. As to whether he was showing off, it wouldn't surprise me if he was. Then again, can any of us say we never have?
My smpathy goes to all of them, including the driver. He still has his life, but I doubt this will ever leave him.
This is a very sad story and I have to agree, I do think more restrictions should be put on new drivers (and yes I know its easy to say after driving for over 4 years, but its true).
The worrying thing is, my brother (17) passed his driving test this afternoon - he is currently out driving...he does have a 1.0 Nissan Micra though and not a 1300 Mk2 Escort like I had at his age.
Was there not a talk of a "probationary" period after passing the test when newbies weren't allowed to carry passengers? If it had been implimented it could have saved 4 lives in that one incident.
touble with smaller engines, is that it can make you drive madder to try and keep up. when i used to drive my nans 1.1 escort i took more risks than in my 2.0 cortina

BUT THEY JAILED A SPEEDER WTF!!!!
this country is going down the pan IMHO
even so, the guilt in its self must be a life sentence
My thoughts exactly.
As for showing off, who said he was showing off? I don't know the facts but it seems to me that your guilty until proven innocent. It may have just been a stupid error on the part of an inexperienced driver that caused this unfortunate accident.Scapegoat springs to mind and then enveryone wants to hang all young drivers and punish them all the same. I'm sure that unless the kid is a complete arsehole he is going to pay for that 1 minute error for the rest of his life!
Most importantly I feel sorry for the poor lives that were taken at a young age and for their families that have to live on.![]()

Something has to be done as it seems every other week theres a fatal crash involving young drivers reported in South Wales Argus (our local paper).
I lost my best friend and two others back when we were 19. The same things were said back then but still nothings changed 10 years on.
This current case is fairly local to me, ive driven the road it happend on many times, its a nice mountain road that you can go very quick on in daylight. But at night the dips, bends and sheep can really catch you out as theres no lights, hedges, banks or trees etc to give you any idea in which way the road is going.
As he only passed his test a couple of days earlier its easy to see how he could have been caught out.
Only him and the other survivor know what happend and thats something they'll have to live with the rest of thier lives.
you could say it was just a moment of error
but at the end of the day he had four girls in the back no seat belts and a passenger in the front 6 people in his car was illegal to start.
and he had admitted music was blasting in his car
Claireana,
That is one of the most disturbing things I see whilst out in my truck.................kids with no seat belts on!!
As an adult it is YOUR choice NOT to wear a seat belt, but whose choice is it for the child!? The adult again. Why, why, why, don't parents use seat belts for their child?
I collect my 3 children every Sunday from their Mother's and I will not move my car until ALL 3 have their belts fitted and one is 19 years old!!
And as "Panelbasher" said, If my daughter was in that car he'd be more worried about NOT being in jail!
End of rant!
Scouse.
Scouse, that's not just you mate, I'm only a meer 21 and I won't even leave the drive until everyone I'm with has a belt on reguardless of their age - its such a simple thing to do it's worth waiting that extra couple of seconds just to make sure. Even if they didn't give a shit about themselves, I don't want them smacking me in the back of the head!
Sounds like a real tragedy; the likes of which has become fairly common in my part of the world.
Two things spring to mind:
Young inexperienced 17 year old drivers
The fast and flimsy jap imports they drive.....(in trinidad)
Just compare an (mk1 or 2)Escort to a Civic; get my drift?
Newer cars are comparatively faster and lighter than the old 'Hard Iron' cars of yesteryear. I think its easier to get it wrong in an underpowered car; as mentioned you always tend to have your foot in the tank trying to keep up!
I daresay you stand a better chance of survival in an old school car if it collided with some modern vehicle; in fact it may be the cause the newer car was 'totalled'.
The comment about the attitudes of the youths of today is also pretty relevant, i see it here all the time.....
How many of us went joyriding at that age;we have survived to realise how stupid we were........lesson learnt.
For those girls to have died that driver had to be 'pressing hard'
Speed doesnt kill; reckless driving (driver error?) kills.......
So Sorry![]()

Kevin
