    ants mini... the everyday hack...

right well... i was going to treat myself to a mk1 fiesta for my first car... and after a bit of thinking i went down to the scrappie today to see if there was any mk1's down there that i could nick the engine from... but unfortunately i stumbled across this beasty... and after a bit of bartering i got her at a nicer price... the plan is to just tidy it up a bit, nicer wheels, different arches, and a few other bits, basically make it a usable daily hack, but theres no rush, im not 17 till next october, and then i have gotta pass my test so... yknow
when i bought it it was turning over but not firing... so a couple of hours of fiddling and job was a good un
tommorow im genna free off throttle cable, and try to sort out some wheels for it... need to replace the sills aswell at some stage
what colour do ya reckon for it??

    thanks
    ant

Wish my old man let me buy do cars when I was your age.

One I hated him for was a x concors car (mk2 harrier) had a tap in the pass wing and front panel all for less that a grand.

Still call him a knob for that to this day.

Nice one Ant, you can't beat a Mini, its the most fun you can have in a budget car with your clothes on

I learnt to drive in a very similar mini and I still wish i had one now, just wish they were a tad more reliable and a lot less of a rust magnet

Stick on a set of arches, 13's and the odd rattle can of paint on it and it will look great

Nice one Ant, will see what I can do about wheels and I have a set of 70's style arches you can have, might have a few other bits too. Will see if I can get a pic of the arches but will be at Garys in the next week or so, so you can pick em up from there.

love minis i prefer them in British racing green with the white or cream roof with the copper bonnet stripes and of coarse a row of 4 spot lights or 3 as the Italian job .omo.

might be some colours in this you like :

Thats the look id go for mate they do look tough with fat arches and 7X13 minilites.
But PLEASE be careful when its on the road ant, minis dont like to be hit,
I lost a close pal in one years ago, the other driver was in an orion and had a broken nose only.
Ive never been in one since.

in the process of replacing the throttle cable i pulled up the carpets genna need 2 front floorpans aswell, and some small repairs to the inner arches
decided on colour now though... kawasaki green

alright thanks wessie... no no flip front... am thinking of keeping the steel front untill it gets rotten then switch to flip front. but looking at a mini build elsewhere putting a flip front on is just a case of cutting off the steel front and putting 2 brace's down to the subframe ??

    thanks for the comments fellas
    heres a little update...
    new steering wheel:

new seats... all polished up... thanks Jon

    old sill off...

bonnet pins fitted to my stripped out lightweight bonnet... cant decide if it looks better jacked up a lil or not think it might look better once the car is arched

another shot showing some of what was under my sill wasnt too bad though... i fear the other side will be worse

you cant see there is the spot welds... every half inch along that lip... took me a day to pick them apart
nice lil weld on my evening project... seat mounts... i couldnt get a decent picture but the penetration is perfect

another of the lil patches needed to the iner sills

    new sill on

repair to bottom of drivers door

just for you matt i couldnt resist

    thanks fellas

well ive gotten far more done over the last couple of days than i expected to, to be honest
    yesterday:
    brace bar welded in

    some nice rust

    Rust on its way out

    Today:
    small repair to inner sill

    door step on

and hey presto new outer sill on

so now its only th drivers side floor, boot floor and a couple of small repairs with any luck

heres a couple of shots of the old mans new car... quite good compared to the stuff he usually gets

    HAPPY CHRISTMAS

    thanks
