    Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

Hi I thought i would have a go at doing one of these projects threads, so here we go.
I bought the car about 5 or 6 months ago, the day after i bought it i took it down the A46 and gave it some sh*t!
BANG! i put a conrod through the the block, i worked out i didnt even own the car 24 hours before killing it
I have just rebuilt the engine but now it has a oil pump problem. so its coming out again and im going to get the whole bottom end lightened and balanced and put a genuine cosworth hp pump in it.
The car is going to be painted orange, and i have just bought a full perspex window kit with sliders in both sides.
im trying to make it as light as posible.
does anyone know any of the history behind this car or seen it at any shows. I got told by someone it was in classic ford mag with a pinto in it, dont know if this is true or not?

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

saw this on ebay a while back, and i do remember a red pinto powered fiesta on steels in classic ford (if i remember correctly it had sylvester and tweety pie mud flaps on the back)

personally i think it looks awesome now, is it still on the mini lite type wheels or those rims in the top pic???

i also remember this car having a nissan pulsar bonnet vent
    ....glad thats been ditched.

sorry to hear you have had problems with the block, but when its been lightened and balance, this will be an awesome track/road weapon.

have you joined xrtwo.com's forum because i think people on there might have more insight into the history of the car.

And a guy in Weston before that!!
Used to belong to 'Archy' who put the cossy motor in it.

Was running 350bhp with a 100 shot of nitrous.
Been in that car when it was first done.

    How are the brakes now?

Archy didn't care much for stopping, and he wanted to keep the 13" wheels.

yeah it was in weston, then rich in bristol had it. he's the one who sold the orange cossied mk1 on ebay with the black escos alloys. i don't think rich ever really used the fiesta i never seen him about in it. there's a kiddie called Dar on here [have a search of the movies section for Combe video clips] & he knows rich pretty well & sees a lot of him as far as i know.

looks good though mate keep us up to date with it

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

yes mate i bought the car off rich i think he used to use it for drifting. When i went to pick it up and he took me out in it i about sh*t myself! you dont expect it to be that quick! and when he hits a roundabout sideways and iv never even met or been in a car with him before it leaves a brown stripe in your pants lol
The brakes need sorting on the car the master cylinder is nearly touching the exhaust so the hotter you get the exhaust the worse the brakes are
But it will all be sorted soon the whole car just needs some tlc. I think rich must have just used it as a thrashing car.
Has anyone seen it at any track days?

that is a beast of a fiesta

gutting when you break something as soon as you buy it... my gearbox went on the way up the M1 3 days after i bought the car but it soon gets fixed and it should be ace once your out thrashing it again

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

The paint colour has changed now its going blue and white instead of orange. The engine is out and sitting on my garage floor as im going to send it away to have the bottom end balanced after xmas.
The dash is all ripped out now, also gone are the doorcards, electric windows, central locking, and alot of wiring.
I got my hands on a corsa electric power steering colume and bought a control unit off ebay so the fiesta will have adjustable power steering.
I bought a massive intercooler that is 750x300x100mm in size so it will take the whole front end us even the grill space!
i will try and get some more pics
the engine before i plucked it

sorry about the bad pic (dash ripped out)

I paid a bit less for a smaller one and it looks from the same place. I was well impressed aswell. The smaller one was rated at 400bhp depending on boost so you should be good for a 600bhp

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

Now christmass is gone i have got my arse in gear again and done something to the car
My perspex windows have been delivered (they are the b*llocks) from plastics for performance and so has my fiberglass bonnet.
I got my bonnet off a lad who sells them on ebay and im will chuffed with the fit and how well its made, he also make boots.
The intercooler is in, but it needs mounts making up.
I have started to sort the body work out, the front bumper has been cut off to be repaired and im getting it all rubbed down and the dents out for it to be spayed.
I keep finding filler all over the car but iv not found any rust yet thank god.
I also managed to find the Classic Ford mag with the car in (Dec 03), it gave me alot of info on what had been done to the car.
    Well chuffed.

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

Well i managed to get a sh*t load done this weekend me and my mate gaz started work on it at 10.30am and finished working at 1.30am
    I was proper F*cked!!!!!
Anyway i cut out the old nasty gearbox tunnel, someone had smashed it in with a hammer to get the T5 gearbox bellhousing to fit. I made a new one on the pressbrake at work and it turned out quite nice.
We re-strenghened the front bumper with fiberglass mesh and managed to get all four arches looking mint, it took alot of sanding!!!
I took the fuel tank, steering colume and the rest of the wireing loom out and smoothed out the filler cap because im going to put mine in the window. all in all a good day

Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth (update)

Got my intercooler sorted now! in the first pic it has rubber hose's but they wouldnt fit between the headlights.
So i got 2 mandrel bent 90 degree bends and cut the original inlet and outlet off. Cut down the bends and tig welded them on, all i gotta do now is polish it up and mount the thing.
also my old man got a new dog its a puppy (Sid) but see if you can guess what breed he is.

Judging by the size of the paws i would say the little feller is going to get quite a bit bigger than his current size. (Though i could be wrong .) Nice work on the fezzy BTW. There has been no small amount of done on that bulkhead in the past . The new tunnel looks real good .

    Little update.
Not done much for a bit being lazy and no money!!!
But i have finally stopped pissing around and started to do something.
I have nearly sorted the front bumper out and im starting to sort my doors (there geting lighter) and fit my front windows (the eagle eyed will notice its the wrong way round, just checking the fit).

Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth (bumpers on)

Well got a bit more done its getting closer to painting time now.
The cage terned out to be a pain in the arse and i couldnt get the tube to bend nice for sh!t
I did everything even packing the tube with sand but it just kept kinking so im in need of a cage if anyones got one?
both my doors are fully lightend and smoothed now.
The bumpers back on it just needs smoothing to the arches took ages to get it in the centre properly but look good with the new holes in it.
Started to stonechip the underside too so it getting there.
All i need now is a hydralic bias pedal box and a cage

sorry the pics are sh!t i keep forgetting my camara
